Transcript: Academic transcripts (showing all course names and grades, in English) from all post-secondary (college & university) institutions you have attended. For initial evaluation of your application, please upload a scan of each transcript. If you are selected for admission, you will be required to provide an official hard copy of each transcript (along with its English translation if necessary) in a sealed envelope endorsed by your university. Your admission cannot be officially confirmed until UBC receives the official transcripts. Please see required documents for Canadian and international students for more information. Recommendation Letter: Three references written by former professors or supervisors. We encourage the use of electronic references, submitted through the online application system. If electronic submission is not possible for some reason, paper letters of reference should be written on the referee's official letterhead, and mailed in a sealed and endorsed envelope.

If one of your referees knows you in a professional context, this is also acceptable as long as they are able to speak to your ability in your proposed research areas. Reference letters are submitted directly by the referee to the online application system. Your prospective academic supervisor(s) in Faculty of Forestry cannot also act as a referee. You (the applicant) will input each of your referee's contact information into the online application system. The referees will then receive an auto-notification with instructions on how to upload their letters only after you have completed the rest of your online application and paid your application fee and submitted it online. It is therefore VERY important that you complete and submit your online application with enough time for your referees to be contacted, be able to comfortably write their letters of recommendation and for us to receive their documents before the Forestry admissions deadline.

Transcript: SCARP requires applicants to scan and upload digital copies of all official transcripts (and/or degree certificates and translations). Please ensure that the uploaded documents are official transcripts and include a transcript key. Note that transcript keys are often printed on the reverse sides of official transcripts. Grade reports, marking sheets, and transcripts marked “unofficial” are not acceptable and will not be considered for review. The uploaded copies of official transcripts are considered “unofficial documents”. We use the unofficial documents to evaluate applicants and make conditional offers of admission. Transcripts in a language other than English or French must be accompanied by certified translations. Curriculum Vitae: Each applicant must submit a resume detailing educational background, work and/or volunteer experience, publications (if any), and any academic or professional awards earned. Personal Statement: Applicants are required to prepare and submit a research statement/thesis proposal (about 1,000 words). The statement should outline the thesis project you wish to undertake, the research methods you expect to use, and how the work builds on or draws from your previous training or experience. Recommendation Letter: References for SCARP should be from individuals who can assess your academic or professional qualifications and your communication skills. In most cases, at least two references should be academic. If you have been away from school for several years, all references may be from non-academics who are capable of assessing your professional and, if possible, your potential academic performance. There are three possible formats for references: electronic references, paper letters of reference, and paper reference forms. SCARP prefers that references utilize the electronic reference system in the online application. For more information, see the grad studies webpage for Letters of Reference. Please note that an online application must be submitted before referees receive a request to produce a reference. Writing Sample: Each applicant must also submit at least one sample of academic research and writing. An undergraduate thesis, previous academic publications, or previous academic project are all acceptable writing samples.
