Transcript: Academic transcripts (showing all course names and grades, in English) from all post-secondary (college & university) institutions you have attended. For initial evaluation of your application, please upload a scan of each transcript. To finalize your admissions offer, please arrange for 2 sets of official final transcripts to be sent directly to The Faculty of Graduate and Post Doctoral Studies. If these documents are not received, UBC will prevent you from registering. Personal Statement: Statement of Purpose (SOP) A two pages maximum Statement of Purpose outlining your goals for your degree program. Specifically, you should detail why you would like to come to UBC to engage in studies leading to a degree in Biomedical Engineering. Please describe your aptitude and motivation for graduate study in your area of research interest, including your preparation for this field of study, your academic plans or research goals, and your future career goals. Additionally, please indicate whether you have been awarded or have applied for any scholarships (e.g., NSERC PGSM/PGSD, CIHR PGSM/PGSD, China Scholarship Council, etc.) and include amount of funding, duration of funding, etc. Recommendation Letter: Your application requires three letters of support from referees. At least one of your references should detail your academic achievement and how you would perform in a graduate-level degree program. Specifically, for each referee, you will need to provide: first name; last name; email address; contact information at his/her institution; title or position held; Please let your prospective referees know that the online application system will email them asking for a reference to be entered.

Transcript: Official transcripts from all post-secondary institution are required. Transcripts issued in languages other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. At least two referees must have taught you in a senior undergraduate or graduate course. Applicants to the Ph.D. program should request a letter of recommendation from their M.A thesis supervisor. Writing Sample: An essay or writing sample in French or Spanish that you have submitted recently in a course or a chapter of your M.A. thesis if it is written in French or Spanish should be provided.

In European countries where a Diploma Supplement is available, two sealed and endorsed sets may be submitted in lieu of academic transcripts and/or translations. If the official transcript does not indicate the degree name and the degree conferral date, then an official degree certificate is also required. If the issuing institution does not mail original academic records directly, then stamped, attested true photocopies of academic records in sealed envelopes and endorsed by the Registrar of the home institution will be accepted as official by UBC. All transcripts (and degree certificates) must arrive at the Faculty of Graduate & Post-Doctoral Studies in sealed and endorsed envelopes issued by the home institution to be considered official. Applicants who have graduated from institutions where the transcripts (and degree certificates) are issued in a language other than English, must arrange to have two sets of all official academic records issued in the original language AND accompanied by certified English literal translations. If the issuing institution does not provide English translations of academic documents, the applicant must arrange for official English translations to be done by a certified translator. Transcript: You must submit transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have previously attended, including transcripts from universities attended on exchange. If you are currently completing a degree, submit your transcripts to date. In that case, UBC will not grant final confirmation of acceptance until you have submitted the final transcripts after the degree is conferred. Curriculum Vitae: A 1–2 page summary of your experiences in education, work, travel, volunteering, and other relevant areas. Personal Statement: A 1–2 page statement outlining your interest in the program of choice and your motivation to pursue this degree at UBC. You will upload the statement as part of your online application. Some degrees have more specific requirements:MASA and MASLA: Outline your research interests and aspirations. Describe the proposed area of research and explain why you believe it is important. Include methodology, citations, and a bibliography, and explain how your work experience, readings, and related activities have influenced your chosen research pursuit. Nominate no more than three professors to act as your primary research supervisor and discuss how your research interests align with theirs. Recommendation Letter: You must arrange for three letters of reference, two of which should be academic and speak to your past performance and ability to succeed in a graduate program. Referees submit their letters through the online application system. Portfolio: Submit at least one and no more than three examples of previous scholarly or creative works. At least one example of writing should clearly indicate research ability and be identified as such.
