Personal Statement:
Provide a brief letter (1-2 pages) that outlines your motivation for pursuing the MIF degree, the manner in which your previous education, work or volunteer experience have prepared you to be successful in this graduate program, and what you hope to do on completion of your degree. Why is this particular program at UBC the best place for you to pursue your interests?
This document must be uploaded to your online application as a .PDF file. Please use the following naming format:

Recommendation Letter:
At least one of your three references must be from an academic referee. Referees should be non-relatives who are able to provide a professional appraisal of your work and/or scholastic abilities and potential. They may be employers or former employers, supervisors of volunteer placements or internships, instructors at universities or colleges. They must be able to provide an assessment of your knowledge, skills and character, and probable success in an intensive professional master’s program.
MIF reference forms are submitted directly by the referee to the online application system.
You (the applicant) will input each of your referee's contact information into the online application system. The referees will then receive an auto-notification with instructions on how to upload their MIF reference form only after you have completed the rest of your online application and paid your application fee and submitted it online.
It is therefore VERY important that you complete and submit your online application with enough time for your referees to be contacted, be able to comfortably write their letters of recommendation and for us to receive their documents before the Forestry admissions deadline. |

All applicants must arrange to have two (2) official transcripts from all colleges and universities (other than UBC) attended sent directly to the Faculty of Graduate & Post-Doctoral Studies at 171-6371 Crescent Road, Vancouver, BC, Canada V6T 1Z2, in sealed and endorsed envelopes issued by the Registrar of the home institution. In European countries where a Diploma Supplement is available, two sealed and endorsed sets may be submitted in lieu of academic transcripts and/or translations. If the official transcript does not indicate the degree name and the degree conferral date, then an official degree certificate is also required. If the issuing institution does not mail original academic records directly, then stamped, attested true photocopies of academic records in sealed envelopes and endorsed by the Registrar of the home institution will be accepted as official by UBC. All transcripts (and degree certificates) must arrive at the Faculty of Graduate & Post-Doctoral Studies in sealed and endorsed envelopes issued by the home institution to be considered official. Applicants who have graduated from institutions where the transcripts (and degree certificates) are issued in a language other than English, must arrange to have two sets of all official academic records issued in the original language AND accompanied by certified English literal translations. If the issuing institution does not provide English translations of academic documents, the applicant must arrange for official English translations to be done by a certified translator. You must submit transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have previously attended, including transcripts from universities attended on exchange. If you are currently completing a degree, submit your transcripts to date. In that case, UBC will not grant final confirmation of acceptance until you have submitted the final transcripts after the degree is conferred.
If the academic records are in a language other than English or French, you must submit the transcripts in their original language and accompany them with official translations.
You can upload scans of official transcripts in your online application. When offered admissions, you must arrange for official transcripts in hardcopy.
Curriculum Vitae:
A 1–2 page summary of your experiences in education, work, travel, volunteering, and other relevant areas.
Personal Statement:
A 1–2 page statement outlining your interest in the program of choice and your motivation to pursue this degree at UBC. You will upload the statement as part of your online application. Some degrees have more specific requirements:MASA and MASLA:
Outline your research interests and aspirations. Describe the proposed area of research and explain why you believe it is important. Include methodology, citations, and a bibliography, and explain how your work experience, readings, and related activities have influenced your chosen research pursuit. Nominate no more than three professors to act as your primary research supervisor and discuss how your research interests align with theirs.
Recommendation Letter:
You must arrange for three letters of reference, two of which should be academic and speak to your past performance and ability to succeed in a graduate program. Referees submit their letters through the online application system.
Portfolio:
Submit at least one and no more than three examples of previous scholarly or creative works. At least one example of writing should clearly indicate research ability and be identified as such. |
