Personal Statement:
Provide a brief letter (1-2 pages) that outlines your motivation for pursuing the MIF degree, the manner in which your previous education, work or volunteer experience have prepared you to be successful in this graduate program, and what you hope to do on completion of your degree. Why is this particular program at UBC the best place for you to pursue your interests?

Recommendation Letter:
At least one of your three references must be from an academic referee. Referees should be non-relatives who are able to provide a professional appraisal of your work and/or scholastic abilities and potential. They may be employers or former employers, supervisors of volunteer placements or internships, instructors at universities or colleges. They must be able to provide an assessment of your knowledge, skills and character, and probable success in an intensive professional master’s program.
MIF reference forms are submitted directly by the referee to the online application system.
You (the applicant) will input each of your referee's contact information into the online application system. The referees will then receive an auto-notification with instructions on how to upload their MIF reference form only after you have completed the rest of your online application and paid your application fee and submitted it online.
It is therefore VERY important that you complete and submit your online application with enough time for your referees to be contacted, be able to comfortably write their letters of recommendation and for us to receive their documents before the Forestry admissions deadline. |

The LLM CL Program requires official copies of all university transcripts. If the transcripts are not in English, then you must provide a plain language English language translation. For degrees from China, official original and English language translations of degree certificates are required in addition to transcripts. Your transcripts and degree certificates, including translated copies if needed, must be uploaded directly to the online application. Copies mailed by post will not be accepted, except in special circumstances.

SCARP requires applicants to scan and upload digital copies of all official transcripts (and/or degree certificates and translations). Please ensure that the uploaded documents are official transcripts and include a transcript key. Note that transcript keys are often printed on the reverse sides of official transcripts. Grade reports, marking sheets, and transcripts marked “unofficial” are not acceptable and will not be considered for review.

SCARP requires exactly three references. Additional references will not be considered as part of the final application file.
References should be from individuals who can assess your academic or professional qualifications and your communication skills. In most cases, at least two references should be academic. If you have been away from school for several years, all references may be from non-academics who are capable of assessing your professional and, if possible, your potential academic performance. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their references submit documentation by the deadlines specified. The reference deadline is less than a week from the application deadline. If you are currently completing a degree, submit your transcripts to date. Outline your research interests and aspirations. Describe the proposed area of research and explain why you believe it is important. Include methodology, citations, and a bibliography, and explain how your work experience, readings, and related activities have influenced your chosen research pursuit. Nominate no more than three professors to act as your primary research supervisor and discuss how your research interests align with theirs.
Recommendation Letter:
You must arrange for three letters of reference, two of which should be academic and speak to your past performance and ability to succeed in a graduate program. Referees submit their letters through the online application system.
Portfolio:
Submit at least one and no more than three examples of previous scholarly or creative works. At least one example of writing should clearly indicate research ability and be identified as such. |
