It should describe your academic background, the source of your interest in anthropological research, and the subfield(s) and topic(s) of greatest interest to you. Because we do not offer courses or have faculty resources in every geographic or topical area, your personal statement should indicate a match between your educational/professional goals and our programmatic emphases. Applicants are normally expected to identify prospective thesis advisers in their statements, and they typically contact faculty members before writing the statement to discuss preliminary possibilities for thesis research. The statement should also mention any awards, honors, or experiences that will help us evaluate your application.
